Region Apfelland
Where the name says it all
The Apfelland is almost a paradise with the Stubenbergsee as the tourist centre of the region. Lake Stubenberg is considered one of the warmest bathing lakes in Austria with extensive sunbathing lawns and a wide range of leisure activities. Over 1 million fruit trees invite you to savour the “East Styrian Apple Region”. Apfelland-Stubenbergsee is particularly beautiful in spring during the blossoming season and in autumn at harvest time with the festive highlights “Apple Blossom Festival” in April and “Adventure Trip” in September.
Your day along the apple and flower route
In the morning, you will visit Vorau – a member of the famous Flower Route – where the spacious, completely renovated grounds of the Chorherrenstifts Vorau are located. The tour includes: History, church, sacristy and library. The Vorau collegiate church is one of the most splendid churches in Styria thanks to its lavish abundance of frescoes. The Augustinian canons’ monastery was founded in 1163 as a centre for prayer, pastoral care, education and culture. Culturally significant are the world-famous library, the high baroque collegiate church and the sacristy.
For lunch, we recommend the traditional inn “Buchtelbar”, famous for its unique Buchteln in numerous variations (sweet yeast pastry).

The Kräftereich in St. Jakob am Walde deserves a short stop. Earth rays and water veins, the power of colours, the moon, water and the influence of emotions on our daily lives: A varied exhibition is offered in spectacular themed rooms covering over 1600 m²!
In the afternoon, you will reach the Apple Road, the “Orchard of Austria” with millions of fruit trees. The adventure road winds 25 kilometres through the lovely hilly landscape, past pretty farmhouses. You can learn the secrets of “schnapps distilling” in numerous fruit farms. Our tip: Piebers Edelbrände

Pöllauberg
The baroque pilgrimage church of Pöllauberg on the "Samstagsberg" is a place of pilgrimage for people from all over Europe.
It is worth combining a visit to the Fandler oil mill with a trip to the Pöllauberg pilgrimage church. The building rises imposingly over 750 metres above the Pöllau Valley and its history dates back to the 12th century. It is still one of the main works of Styrian High Gothic architecture.
